Britain was not the only country that gained control of Somalia. The British established a protectorate called British Somaliland controlled northern Somalia. The British also wanted to gain resources such as mutton, livestock, sugar, bananas, and citrus. They wanted to be able to gain these resources to ship them back to England and trade them. Over time, the British were able to obtain Italian Somaliland by waging a battle against Italy and winning, therefore forcing the Somalis under British military control. It stayed this way until the beginning of World War II, when the entirety of Somalia became a United Nation trust territory. Since the imperialization of the horn of Africa was never a success, they were one day able to achieve independence.
